Exchange Begins Styrofoam Recycling Trial
The Exchange receives a large volume of Styrofoam packing material, so we’re launching a pilot collection and recycling program.
Starting April 16, 2026 we will place a dedicated Styrofoam collection bin at the Z-wall. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll track how much material is collected and evaluate the program’s effectiveness. At this time we are only collecting block-style solid packing materials.
Based on those results, we’ll decide whether it makes sense to invest in densifying equipment—machinery that compresses Styrofoam, reducing its volume and making transportation to the mainland more economically feasible.
*Please do not bring packing peanuts or any highly broken down styrofoam as it will easily blow out of the bins and create a mess.
