The road to a zero-waste community is not easy – especially on an island! To achieve zero waste, materials must either be returned safely to a re-use cycle on Orcas (ie The Exchange, Buy Sell Trade, etc.) or remain viable in the industrial cycle. The proper disposal of trash and recyclable materials is very important.

Tourism is a huge driver for our local economy, however, many visitors remain unaware of the effects trash has on our community – both financially and environmentally. Educational tools could help tourists who utilize our local rental community make better decisions when disposing of trash.
