ORS Responds To Racial Injustice
“It is ORS policy that all decisions involving any aspect of the employment relationship will be made without regard to race, color, sex, creed, religion, age, marital status, national origin, citizenship, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender expression or any other status or characteristic protected by local, state, or federal law. Discrimination and/or harassment based on any of those factors are totally inconsistent with our philosophy and will not be tolerated.”
–Section 1.1, ORS H.R. Manual
Orcas Recycling Services has always championed non-discrimination, as reflected in our standing Bylaws, Human Resources Manual, and Volunteer Handbook.
Events of 2020 and the BLM movement have elevated our national conversation around race and racial equity as never before. Accordingly, the Board of ORS has directed management to hold meetings with all staff to review and discuss these policies in the weeks ahead. We look forward to these meetings and the dialogue and ideas they will generate.
At ORS, we are committed to being a good corporate citizen, a good employer and good neighbor to all islanders. We strive to treat all persons fairly with sensitivity and respect. We consider our organization to be part of the social safety net on Orcas, providing those in need with affordable household goods.
We continuously look for opportunities to improve as an organization in pursuing our Zero Waste mission. We welcome everyone to help us make our community an even better place.
