Island Life Environmental Film Festival Supports Local Eco Efforts

On May 2nd and 3rd, Island Life on Orcas, in collaboration with Patagonia, hosted the inaugural Environmental Film Festival at the Seaview Theatre.

The weekend event showcased a powerful lineup of Patagonia short films focused on conservation, sustainability, and activism. All proceeds from the festival benefited two vital organizations: Orcas Recycling Services/The Exchange and the SeaDoc Society. With films like UndammedBlue Heart, and Unbroken Ground, attendees experienced moving stories that spotlight global and local environmental challenges—and solutions.

Saturday evening featured a special highlight with local author and naturalist Bob Friel introducing Salish Sea Wild: A Shocking Story About Sandpipers, offering a unique regional perspective on the ecological importance of the Salish Sea.

Each ticket purchase not only supported environmental advocacy but also included an entry into a raffle for an Island Life gift certificate. By bringing together community members through the power of film, the festival amplified local commitment to protecting our island environment and inspired continued engagement in conservation efforts.
